Ellen W. Kaplan is Professor of Theatre (acting/directing) at Smith College; and a professional actor, director, and playwright. Her plays have been produced internationally and she has directed, acted, and taught seminars in Spain, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Israel, Hong Kong, and Romania, and across the U.S.

Ellen has spent over 30 years doing applied theatre with underserved groups in prisons, with adjudicated teens, special needs students, in conflict zones, with elders, and teaching literacy. In 2016, she performed La Nieta del Dictador in Spanish and English and currently she is translating and performing La Razon Blindada by Arístides Vargas.
